Headed by Project Manager Anthony Pino and his partner and equal, Heather Fuchs, Metro Design Build is a Chicago-area design firm dedicated to creating premium home concepts.
Surprisingly, owner Anthony Pino found his first calling in the Navy as an aircraft carrier and rescue swimmer. But these days, he applies his knowledge in from Illinois School of Engineering to save homes by giving them much-needed renovations. Pino’s background in construction has aided him in building home concepts that are functional and trendy, which we showcase in this high-end kitchen makeover in Chicago.
Heather Fuchs is skilled in her craft and has collected several awards acknowledging her skillsets, including a feature in Trends Ideas. Fuchs learned to master interior design as an Illinois Institute of Art alum with an emphasis in Interior Architecture. About This Lakeview Modern Kitchen by Metro Design Build
To get to the positively modern space outcome of this space, the Metro Design Team had to tackle a few key roadblocks. After fully gutted from lighting and flooring, and installing new gas and waterlines following Pino’s expert engineering skills, the team was on their way to creating a premium space to cook and entertain brimming of modern appeal.
Overall, this Chicago kitchen design by Metro Design Build is monochromatic — but not boring in the slightest. Every corner is rich in careful minimalism, from the European White Oak hardwood flooring to the custom cabinetry. The design team adds purposeful depth with the fine grain details and matte black in three different applications: on the lighting, the sink, and the cabinetry. The color choice plays beautifully into the Silestone quartz kitchen waterfall island with veining for a touch of old-world-meets-new-world.
It’s no surprise the clients and Metro Design Build agreed on European appliances for this kitchen. Miele appliances are the hero of this space, while PITT and Best kitchen ventilation serve as secondary roles that preserve this kitchen’s urban minimalism.
A Miele Refrigerator Built for Modern Kitchens
To extend the seamless feel of this kitchen, the designers at Metro Design Build selected a Miele 36” built-in refrigerator. This particular integrated refrigerator has no handle; instead, it uses a touch-to-open function, allowing a flush installation that truly disappears with its custom matte panel-ready front.
The luxury continues inside with advanced food preservation to keep every ingredient at peak flavor no matter the season. Miele’s SmartFresh keeps foods fresher three times longer, while the exclusive DynaCool fan ensures every level from top to bottom of this built-in refrigerator gets fresh airflow and filtration to prevent items from spoiling. In total, this Miele refrigerator provides 19.6 cubic feet of capacity, which the users can control with Wi-Fi to match the modern lifestyle this space invokes.

Miele Appliances for Morning to Mealtime
Life in the city means a love for coffee, so what better way to feed that indulgence than with a built-in coffee maker? The designers make good use of wall space by creating an appliance garage with an integrated coffee maker, plus a built-in panel-ready warming drawer below to recreate the coffee shop experience at home.
Espresso, cappuccinos, lattes, and regular brews are all the fingertips of these homeowners, complete with Miele AromaticSystemFresh that grinds coffee beans in the moment for the freshest tasting possible.
The Miele PureLine coffee maker featured in this kitchen concept showcases a sleek, black design with stainless steel accents for a modern presentation that perfectly suits this kitchen’s scheme.

With a gentle nudge using the Push2open function, the homeowners of this kitchen also have access to a warming drawer. Like the Miele refrigerator in this kitchen, there’s no handle on this warming drawer, a thoughtful choice by the Metro Design Build team in order to continue the flush appearance this kitchen excels at. However, this 24” warming drawer is no unitasker. It features four temperature settings, including a slow roast setting, so it can be used to warm plates and coffee mugs for 5-star service, or to slow-roast entrées and sides while the main oven is in use.

Inside This Miele Steam Oven + Convection Oven
Adjacent to the coffee station, the designers installed a two-part oven setup with multiple cooking methods the adventurous home cook will appreciate. The double oven configuration features a steam oven above and a convection oven below, both with Miele exclusives that deliver the quality and looks of professional kitchens.
Our clients in this spotlight will have the ability to bake with ultimate flexibility using DualSteam inlets for all-around moisture. So, whether it’s artisanal bread or long roasts, food doesn’t dry out. Black finish with sleek glass fronts pick up on the modern black theme of the kitchen

The 30” convection oven below carries the same black aesthetic with metallic accents. It’s cohesive, it’s modern, but best of all, this professional wall oven is powerful. The addition provides a range of cooking methods, including Miele’s Moisture Plus feature for succulent roasts and braises, plus convection for even bakes no matter where items are placed in the oven.

The Hidden Miele Dishwasher
While this kitchen focuses on a modern feel, the clients were adamant about it being a space where entertaining is easy. That includes cleanup, but a regular dishwasher just doesn’t fit in with the feel of this space. Luckily, the team was able to solve the problem with a Miele panel-ready dishwasher finished in the same matte-black look as the rest of the kitchen.
This premium dishwasher goes even further than looks to disappear with a hushed 42-dBA noise rating that doesn’t interrupt conversations during hosting. But it doesn’t compromise on power. While it looks beautiful, inside powerful dishwasher technology such as QuickIntenseWash and AutoDos for precise administration of dish detergent deliver sparkling results. Smart, modern, efficient — everything the client asked for.

A Modern Cooking Station
Without a doubt, the biggest conversation piece of this kitchen is its cooking setup. For the surprise element, Metro Design Build uses PITT custom gas burners that install directly into the quartz countertop for a continuous look. It replicates the illusion of invisible appliances while adding chic, high-end appeal. PITT custom cooktops are made in Holland, which helps to accent the European influence found throughout this kitchen.
If you look closely, you can see a custom Best range hood installed above the PITT burners. For this kitchen ventilation, the Metro crew fitted the insert with a cover made of the same European White Oak as the flooring. The contrast adds much-needed balance to offset the use of black, which would feel heavy otherwise.
Like every other appliance used in this kitchen, this Best range hood was selected with a purpose. On top of powerful airflow at a rate of 600 CFM, this over-the-range hood also features Heat Sentry that senses high-heat settings and automatically turns, as well as two-level lighting to set the mood or cook in style.
