About Grand
Since 1930, Grand Appliance has been making homes work better — from electricity when we first started to now the appliances that run on it. Four generations later, the business still runs on the same three things: carry the best brands, know the products cold, and make it as easy as possible to upgrade your home.
Today that means 31 showrooms and five regional warehouses across Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Iowa, professional delivery and installation, and a website built to make the whole thing simple. As we’ve grown into new markets, with new team members and partners, the standard has stayed the same.

Who Is Grand?
Grand started in Waukegan, Illinois in 1930 as Service Electric, founded by a Norwegian immigrant named Fredrik Hjelmeland. The company sold appliances, but specialized in wiring homes for electricity back when most of the area didn’t have it. Demand for appliances grew and the business followed. After moving to a larger, more prominent location on Grand Avenue, then owner and Fredrik’s son-in-law, Fred Reckling, changed the name to Grand Appliance.
The store on Grand Avenue remained the only one until third-generation owner Mark Reckling convinced his father to open a second store in 1992. From there, Mark’s drive to grow fueled Grand’s expansion across Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Wisconsin.
The same family continues to guide the company today. Mark’s son-in-law and current CEO, Anish Gauri, leads Grand, and the Reckling family remains heavily involved in the business and its place in the community.

In 2026, Grand partnered with R&B Wholesale Distributors, a West Coast appliance distributor serving California, Nevada, Arizona and New Mexico, with locations from Southern California to Seattle. Grand Appliance CEO, Anish Gauri, leads both companies.
