Grand’s 5 Favorite Cooktop and Wall Oven Combinations

by Olly Mason

There are plenty of reasons why the cooktop and wall oven combination is a popular kitchen layout. For starters, whereas a range utilizes an oven and cooktop on a single footprint, users have commented on how the appliance may reduce workflow in the kitchen, as well as the strain of having to bend to use the lower oven.

On the other hand, a wall oven is shoulder height, providing easier access, and opting for a separate cooktop means cooks can explore bigger cooking surfaces than the standard 30-inch range cooktop. In this blog, we’ll go over our five favorite cooktops and wall ovens from five brands.

Before we begin, take a moment to note:

  • While there are several different cooktop sizes available on the market, we’ve chosen to focus on 30-inch and 36-inch cooktops since they are the most compatible with kitchen dimensions; when possible, we recommend a 36-inch cooktop.
  • Although the most popular wall oven size is 27 inches, we suggest upgrading to a 30-inch wall oven when possible, to better accommodate sheet pans and cookware. To find a 27-inch wall oven from the following brands, make sure to contact one of our experts!
  • If there are plans to include a gas range in the kitchen, consider a wall oven combo in order to replace an over-the-range microwave with a range hood for proper ventilation.

1. Frigidaire Gallery

We’re starting off our list of favorite cooktop and wall oven combinations with our top-rated budget option, Frigidaire Gallery. Many of the cooktops and wall ovens from this series feature advanced cooking innovations that match even mid-range cooking appliances.

Our top picks for Frigidaire Gallery cooktops come in both 30-inch and 36-inch options, and since they’re approved for installation above any Frigidaire Gallery single electric wall oven, users are able to explore even more layout possibilities in the kitchen.

Cooktops

Frigidaire gas cooktops feature five sealed burners, complete with an 18,000 BTU Quick Boil burner for quick sears or boils, and a Simmer Burner for gentle cooking applications, such as sauces. The brand’s new-and-improved design also features dishwasher-safe grates and angled front-control knobs that are even easier to use.

Frigidaire electric cooktops are intelligently designed with SpaceWise Expandable heating elements that provide extra flexibility, a smooth glass surface for easier cleanup, and hot surface indicators for added safety.

Wall Ovens

One of the major advantages of Frigidaire Gallery wall ovens is the ability to enjoy convection on both single and double wall oven configurations. In fact, select top-end Frigidaire Gallery cooktops even come with Air Fry cooking in both ovens, a rare feature for even high-end ovens.

2. Bosch

Bosch’s hallmark German craftsmanship is not only stylishly sleek: it’s also ergonomic. With a minimalist design and remarkable performance, the following Bosch cooktops and wall ovens help solve a few common kitchen frustrations.

Cooktops

At the center of every Bosch 30-inch and 36-inch gas cooktop is a blazing 19,000 BTU burner capable of properly searing, boiling, and pan-frying foods with professional results. Just as important, Bosch’s OptiSim® Burner provides low heat to gently poach, braise, or simmer delicate foods.

Bosch electric cooktops come with an exciting lineup of cooking features that suit every modern home cook’s needs. Users are able to explore new levels of cuisine thanks to “bridging elements” capable of expanding the cooking surface from a single element to an oblong element for larger cookware. Also included is SpeedBoost® heating technology that reduces cooking times on liquids and 17 PreciseSelect® cooking levels that provide accurate heat settings for every inspired creation.

Wall Ovens

With a range of configurations to choose from, Bosch wall ovens allow buyers to envision different ways to improve a kitchen’s function. All Bosch single wall ovens feature convection cooking, and Bosch double wall ovens feature convection in the top oven. Meanwhile Bosch Benchmark double ovens feature convection in both the top and bottom oven.

Combo Wall Ovens

Combination wall ovens — comprised of a built-in microwave on top and a wall oven below — are increasingly becoming a popular oven layout in modern kitchen designs. That’s because electric oven-micro combos help solve two problems:

  1. Installing the microwave into the kitchen cabinetry frees up valuable countertop space.
  2. Pairing a microwave and an oven in a single footprint enhances a kitchen’s workflow.

Bosch combo wall ovens come in a standard option with a microwave and convection oven, or in an upgraded model featuring an electric speed oven with convection cooking and a convection oven below.

Bosch Benchmark Side-Swing Ovens

With Benchmark side-swing ovens, home cooks can experience a new level of convenience while baking and roasting. While this door design is especially beneficial for petite users, it also reduces the chance of burning from reaching over a hot oven door, something every home cook can benefit from.

3. LG

The award for tech-forward cooking appliances naturally goes to LG. The brand consistently finds new ways to merge technology with its appliances for a progressive user experience suited for the modern kitchen.

Users might also appreciate that LG 30-inch and 36-inch cooktops both come with five cooking zones. In other words, while other brands, such as Bosch, use four heating zones on their 30-inch ranges, LG 30-inch cooktops provide just as much cooking potential as the next size up for both gas and electric surfaces.

Cooktops

Including a center burner with 17,000 BTU output that rapidly bring liquids to boil, and edge-to-edge cast iron grates for easy maneuvering, LG gas cooktops may be simple, but they do what they’re intended to do well. And with sealed gas burners and a continuous stainless-steel surface, mealtime cleanup is even easier.

With Steady Heat Technology, LG electric cooktops deliver even more heat adaptability. While 30-inch models feature a single variable size heating zone, 36-inch options come with three variable heating elements for even more flexibility. Together with sleek SmoothTouch controls and a trendy black glass surface, these electric cooktops are perfectly suited for modern kitchen designs.

Wall Ovens

A standout feature across many LG wall ovens appliances is ThinQ Smart Technology that syncs with a smart device via WiFi connectivity. Once paired, with ThinQ allows remote access to several oven functions, including real-time cooking monitoring, an oven pre-heat notification, and troubleshooting appliance issues.

Both of our favorite single and double LG wall ovens listed feature a convection cook setting, plus LG’s exclusive EasyClean setting that cleans the interior in 10 minutes using only water.

Combo Ovens

While we’re fans of our recommended Bosch combination oven, our suggested LG combo is just as impressive at a fraction of the cost. Even more appealing is its lineup of latest oven features, such as:

  • Steam cooking that operates with a refillable water reservoir, so no plumbing required
  • Even convection cooking for picture-perfect results
  • The TurboCook microwave cook setting that cooks foods up to four times faster than a conventional microwave
  • A no-preheat Infrared Heating setting in the oven that replicates the heat of a grill and reduces cooking times by up to 20 percent

4. GE Profile

As the brand’s premier line, GE Profile delivers a sharp, professional aesthetic versatile enough for high-end kitchens and modest kitchen designs alike.

Unlike the other brands featured in this blog, GE Profile cooktops come in three fuel types: gas, electric, and induction. Every GE Profile 36-inch cooktop comes with five heating zones, while 30-inch electric cooktops come with four heating elements.

Cooktops

The standout feature on GE Profile gas cooktops is the 18,000 BTU tri-ring burner. Its ability to perform as a three-in-one burner makes for smooth and efficient transfer between low-heat simmers and rapid boils all from the same spot. Users will also appreciate the added detail of heavy-duty control knobs with LED backlighting, as well as dishwasher-safe grates.

The edge-to-edge glass surface on GE Profile electric cooktops provide a seamlessly modern look that’s also easier to clean than conventional enamel cooktop surfaces. With expandable heating elements (one on 30-inch models; two on 36-inch models), and the ability to sync two adjacent heating zones, GE Profile electric cooktops offer the flexibility to handle cooking multiple items on a single surface.

Wall Ovens

On top of unparalleled cooking features on their cooktops, GE Profile also provides a rich lineup of wall oven innovations that let home cooks do even more. While mid-range ovens, like the Bosch 800 Series, only come with convection in one oven, GE Profile is capable of delivering convection cooking in both single and double oven configurations.

And with the following features, users have more versatility to explore even more food possibilities:

  • Air Fry oven setting that requires no preheating
  • Compatibility with GE Appliances Kitchen App for remote monitoring and control of the oven from a smart device
  • Scan-to-cook technology on select GE Profile wall ovens that uses artificial intelligence to cook frozen foods at precise settings

Fans of the side-swing oven door — such as those featured on Benchmark wall ovens — may also enjoy GE Profile side-swing ovens available at a portion of the cost. Currently, GE Profile does not make a combo wall oven with side-swing doors, but GE Profile combo wall ovens are still impressive, including rapid halogen heat in a speed oven, plus convection in a lower oven.

5. KitchenAid

Signature handles and an iconic blue porcelain oven interior are both highlights of KitchenAid appliances, but while the brand knows how to make a style statement, it also backs it up with exquisite performance.

Cooktops

Home cooks seeking restaurant-grade performance will enjoy KitchenAid gas cooktops featuring a dual-ring burner with a whopping 20,000 BTU output. To complete the luxury experience, professionally inspired knobs and a scratch-resistant CookShield finish add to the high-end look.

With state-of-the-art Even-Heat technology, KitchenAid electric cooktops are capable of supplying consistent heat for both hot sears and low simmers. Together with multiple heating element sizes, including a triple-ring element that can accommodate cookware from 6 to 12 inches, these cooktops provide a next-level experience for electric cooktop users.

Wall Ovens

If double convection cooking in GE Profile wall ovens is impressive, then KitchenAid wall ovens with an advanced bowtie design are premium experience. The ergonomic convection shape provides even better heat dispersion throughout the oven for baking results that are accurate, consistent, and even better than regular convection cooking.

Additionally, KitchenAid combo wall ovens with Crispwave Microwave Technology deliver three extra methods of cooking — grilling, frying, and convection — allowing users to explore even more ways to cook.
